Joy floods Anfield

A performance of grit and determination, following Luis Garcia's fourth minute goal, saw the Kopites pushing their team on to a higher level than even the most ardent and optimistic Red supporter could ever have imagined.

80/1 outsiders at the start of the competition, and yet now the Reds are just won more match away from claiming the greatest prize in Europe. Which would be all the more startling given the absurdity of the season Anfield has experienced.

Losing to Crystal Palace has come hand in hand with massive results over Juventus, Olympiakos and now, most recently, and perhaps most satisfyingly, the arrogant Jose and his team of Blue millionaires.

There is little doubt that Rafa Benitez has a vision, and that that vision is based on the rich tapestry of what has come before him. As many on Merseyside have said today, Rafa understands football, and understands the history of this majestic giant of a club, and as such he is well equipped to take this team, be it not perfect, to great heights.

And so on to Turkey, and the seemingly impossible, Champions League final. Whatever happens on the 25th May, this European run has surely marked the beginning of the end of a footballing drought in Liverpool 4, and the re-emergence of a footballing superpower with the support and passion which Russian businessmen and their millions will be hard pressed to compete with.
