Jurgen Klopp Lauds Proper Warrior James Milner After Crystal Palace Red Card

Jurgen Klopp hailed his squad as a group of 'proper warriors', with James Milner being the perfect example of that despite his frustrating afternoon against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Milner was sent off for two bookable offences in the last minutes of Saturday's match at Anfield, leaving Liverpool to nervously see out a 3-2 lead.

Sadio Mane made the game safe in stoppage time before Max Meyer's consolation as Liverpool won 4-3 to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the Premier League.

Klopp said that the sight of Milner in the dressing room after the match, frustrated with himself and with both of his knees bloodied, reminded him that he has players who are willing to fight for the cause.

"These boys are ready to do that, they are real fighters. It’s a bunch of proper warriors – I love that. They all stick their leg in or whatever," he told Liverpool's official website.

“If you would have seen Millie sitting in the dressing room, completely frustrated obviously because of the [red] card but both knees bleeding – where can you get that from on that fantastic pitch?"

With a ten-day gap between the Palace match and their next Premier League fixture against Leicester on 30 January, Liverpool have flown to Dubai for a warm-weather training camp.

Milner will be suspended for the Leicester match, though Liverpool may be boosted by the return of Dejan Lovren in defence and Georginio Wijnaldum in midfield.

Trent Alexander-Arnold is also fighting to be fit in time to replace Milner at right back, but Joe Gomez still needs more time to heal following his spell on the sidelines.
