Kanoute unsure if Houllier wanted him at Anfield

West Ham striker Frederic Kanoute has reported back for pre-season training with the Hammers.

Gerard Houllier tried to sign the Frenchman but the asking price forced him to turn his attentions elsewhere so Kanoute is now naturally claiming he's happy in London.

"There were a lot of rumours about me signing for Liverpool at the end of last season and I'd just like to reassure the club's fans that my situation has not changed over the summer," said Kanoute.

"I remain a happy West Ham player and have no intention of leaving.

"I am still unsure how much truth there was in the reports that Gerard Houllier wanted me to sign for him but I have never asked to leave West Ham and cannot imagine a time when I would do so."
