Kanoute would consider Anfield switch if Reds swoop

West Ham striker Frederic Kanoute says he knows nothing about Liverpool's speculated interest in him but would consider a move to Anfield if they made a formal approach.

Fresh reports yesterday (more than 4 weeks after we spilled the beans on the Insider that an agent had been touting his services around!) claimed the Reds had started talking to the Hammers about a possible deal but both Liverpool and West Ham have so far refused to comment.

However the French striker has responded quickly to the speculation via his website at Icons.com

"There have been fresh stories in the press today about Gerard Houllier wanting me to become a Liverpool player next season," said Kanoute.

"It is not the first time that my name has been mentioned in connection with Liverpool and although I'm not sure how much truth there is in the rumours, it seems the story will not go away.

"I know there were stories of Liverpool's interest in me last year when Robbie Fowler went to Leeds United but they signed Nicolas Anelka on loan from PSG less than a month later, which was very quick, and the speed of the move at the time made me wonder how serious they really were in taking me to Anfield.

"I have had no contact with Liverpool this year but these stories suggest their interest remains, and if this is the case, I may have a lot to think about over the summer.

"If any offer is interesting to me from a purely footballing rather than financial point of view, then I have to consider every possibility. I think the same applies to any player and I am no different. I have always made my desire to stay with West Ham clear but this desire is not blind and I cannot close my eyes to new horizons.

"I am still fully focused on my job at West Ham. I believe the team has enjoyed a great season after a terrible start and I have enjoyed being part of the side, despite a few hamstring injury setbacks. What will happen in the summer and next season is still a mystery to me."
