The England under-21 star, who has struggled to displace Jerzy Dudek since moving to the club alongside the 30-year-old Pole in September 2001, would be seen by City manager Kevin Keegan as an ideal replacement for the ageing David Seaman at the City of Manchester Stadium, according to the Sunday Mirror.

Kirkland has, however, recently signed a new contract at Anfield and is thought to be ready to fight for his future with many observers expecting him to assume control of the number one spot by next season.
