With the Reds missing Daniel Agger, Steven Gerrard, Martin Kelly and Glen Johnson for tonight's game with Man City Dalglish could turn to his youth players. Jack Robinson and John Flanagan have trained with the first team all week and could feature, but only if it is helpful to their long term development.

"We have to be very careful. The Academy has progressed fantastically well over the last 18 months or so," said the boss.

"We've got to be mindful of the fact that those youngsters need to be protected. They've played a lot of games at their level and if we are going to put anyone in, it won't be a problem - but we'll have to make sure we are sensible.

"The worst thing for us would be to put someone in and they have a bad game. That would be detrimental.

"So we have to be cautious because we have a lot of promising youngsters. We don't know what we are going to do at this moment in time but if we do put them in then none of them will let us down."
