Kewell declares himself fit

Australia play Japan in their opening game of the 2006 World Cup today and Liverpool's Harry Kewell is fit to play and ready to cause a few shocks during this tournament.

"My groin's all right. I played 60 minutes in our final warm-up against Liechtenstein and I got through that fine," said the winger.

"It was important for me to play in the game, then in the training session today and that's what we did.

"We can do well. We have a tough group, with Brazil and Croatia also there, but I think we'll surprise people. Most countries would want us in their group, thinking we would be a pushover, but they could be in for a shock.

"Make no mistake, we are a good side. Just look at what Greece did winning Euro 2004 or South Korea reaching the semis at the last World Cup.

"I'd put us in that category - an unfancied team ready to cause a few shocks.

"When you look at the other groups, you can pick out teams you think will go through, but you look at our one and you wonder.

"People say Brazil will go straight through but who comes second? We usually do well against Brazil but we know it's how we perform in the other two matches that will probably decide our fate."
