The Liverpool midfielder has been appointed Socceroos skipper for their upcoming World Cup qualifier against China.
"It always is [an honour] to lead your country out," said Kewell.
"I'm going to take it from there and see what happens. Obviously I'm going through a difficult time at the moment and to play this game is very important for me and I'm really looking forward to it."
