The £5m signing suffered knee ligament damage to his left ankle during the Reds 1-1 draw with Crewe on Saturday, forcing him to miss the lucrative tour of Asia.

Senegal star Salif Diao will also be absent from the travelling party after he, like Kewell, sustained knee ligament damage.

Liverpool's Head of Press, Ian Cotton, confirmed the news, saying: "Salif Diao had an x-ray on his right ankle which also revealed ligament damage. Early indications suggest Harry and Salif could be back in training in 10 days and have a chance of returning for the Amsterdam tournament which starts on August 1st.

"Both players wouldn't have had any chance of figuring in the Far East so Harry and Salif will remain in Liverpool for treatment."
