Kewell needs a rest

Liverpool's Aussie winger has been inconsistent so far this season, and has struggled with persistent injuries since his arrival from Leeds at the start of last season.

The Socceroos are scheduled to play friendlies against South Africa in Durban on 9 February and Iraq in Australia on 26 March, but Mandic insists it will be too much for his player.

"Realistically he should have a good rest," he said. "The physios have advised him to take a good eight to 10 weeks off. I would say you would be fortunate to see him twice in Australia."
