Kewell scored in the first half, but was taken off for the second half due to a small niggling injury, much to the disappointment of the Sydney crowd, where the Liverpool man is a firm favourite.
Aussie coach, Frank Farina, said, "Just before halftime he had gone around someone on the middle of the park and he copped a knock on the foot or the ankle."
"The doc's had a look at halftime and we were making two subs. Those things are just not worth the risk," he added.
