Kirkland given Eriksson boost

Kirkland was all set for an England debut before a cruel injury at Crystal Palace brought his season to a halt. Eriksson, though, insists that Kirkland is one of a group of keepers with the ability to replace David Seaman as the England number one.
Eriksson said: "Kirkland is one of those young goalkeepers who will probably be the next Seaman. Him, [Paul] Robinson or [Richard] Wright maybe, as well as [David] James.
"Who it is going to be, I don't know. But from what I can see, one of them will be the next England number one."
