Kirkland is out for six weeks after breaking his wrist in training last Saturday. When he returns to full fitness there will only be three games left before the end of the season.

Former Liverpool goalkeeper and current England goalkeeper coach Ray Clemence has reassured Kirkland that he will still be considered for the squad by England manager Sven Goran Eriksson.

"We are looking forward to seeing him playing again as quickly as possible and the positive thing is that, still being so young, time is very much on his side.

"We all remain convinced that he has what it takes to be a top-quality goalkeeper." said Clemence.
