Kirkland: I don't deserve to play for England

With the Liverpool keeper finally set to make his international debut, he insists his main priority is to play well for the Reds.

"People go on about potential with me and say I could do this and that, but what have I done in the game?" he said. "I have done nothing. Personally, I don't think I deserve a place in the England squad.

"I have only played something like 60 games since I came through at Coventry and the other lads in there have played a hell of a lot more than me.

"Maybe I am being hard on myself. Mr Eriksson has shown with other players that if you are good enough, then age or experience doesn't come into it.

But for now, I just think I need to work hard and concentrate on playing games for Liverpool."
