Kirkland keeping the faith

Kirkland will fly to America this weekend to discover whether he will require surgery on his knee. The young keeper could be forgiven for feeling despondent, especially with an England call beckoning, but he believes he will overcome this setback.

Kirkland, speaking to the club's official website, said:"I'm positive I'll be back for the start of next season. Dr Steadman is the best in the world so I know I'm going to be in the best possible hands.

"He's treated Ronaldo, Alan Shearer, Patrik Berger and Jamie Redknapp in the past and helped them overcome bad knee injuries. I have every confidence in the people who will be looking after me both here at Liverpool and in America.

"It's a massive blow for me but this is football and these things can happen. You have to take the highs with the lows. Hopefully this will just be a minor setback for me in my career."
