Kirkland puts on a brave face

"I must be mad, given that every time I throw myself in amongst the boots I pick up a freak injury," said the England keeper 'in waiting'.

"It's natural that people concentrate on my injuries but it does make me laugh when people say I've got this recurring injury problem, but it couldn't be further from the truth.

"Just about every injury I've had has come from a collision and that's just bad luck.

"There was a bad one at Palace which kept me out for a long time, another one where I broke my finger and then I did my wrist in training.

"I've not had the same injury regularly, I've not had any muscle or mechanical problems in any way.

"I won't change my style. I won't change the way I play and if I get hurt then I get hurt because I have to do the job properly.

"There is no room for me to be thinking I may get injured."
