Kirkland unsure of position

With two keepers of the immense quality of Kirkland and Polish international Jerzy Dudek at his disposal, Gerard Houllier seems to be in no rush to install either player as the club's first-team shot-stopper just yet.

"The manager hasn't made any decision yet and I'd be surprised if he told either of us until before the Chelsea match," admitted 21-year-old Kirkland.

"It will be difficult for one of us because no footballer likes sitting on the bench. But when you join a big squad like this you know how difficult it is to get your place. It's just going to inspire us to work as hard as possible.

"Jerzy and I are good friends and room mates and we have nothing but the utmost respect for each other. We know the situation we're in but we are also professionals working as hard as we can to get into the side.

"We will respect the manager's decision whatever it is, but we honestly haven't a clue what that's going to be."
