Benitez left Xabi Alonso, Fernando Torres and Kuyt himself on the subsitutes bench against Pompey on Saturday but had to bring the trio on to turn a 2-1 loss with 12 minutes remaining into a 3-2 win in injury time. Kuyt says the result proves the boss' decision was the correct one.
"It's the choice of the boss. Of course, as a player you always want to play, but it is the manager's choice - and he was right," he said.
"It was a crazy game but we had to win and we did win. Fernando is such an important player for us and he showed that again at the end."
