Kuyt defends referee

Mark Clattenburg came in for some scathing criticism from the Everton camp after Liverpool won the derby 2-1 on Saturday. However, Dirk Kuyt says the ref got most decisions right.

"There were lots of tough decisions for the referee, and I could not see from where I was that last minute penalty appeal from Everton. But Jamie told me afterwards that it wasn't a penalty, just a man's game, so I believe him," said the Reds striker.

"Some people say they saw the TV and my booking looks bad. But I was just trying to make a tackle and I did not want to touch the player, and I didn't.

"Maybe I was a bit lucky, but I never had any intention of trying to hit the player, it was a yellow card and I accept that.

"We have big games coming up, Besiktas and Arsenal, and our aim is only one thing - to win both games."
