Lee backs Gerrard

Liverpool only won two away games in the Premiership in the whole of 2010 but are looking for a much better set of results in 2011, starting tonight at Ewood Park. The captain will be vital to this says Lee.

"Steven is a class player and everyone knows what he brings to this team," said the assistant manager.

"The likes of him and Carragher are the mainstays of this team and indeed the football club.

"Maybe he came on against Bolton a little bit earlier than we had planned but you saw the difference when he came on.

"Steven linked up brilliantly with Fernando Torres for our equaliser and we need more partnerships like that all over the field.

"Confidence should be immense after the manner of the victory against Bolton but tonight will tell us more because it will be a very difficult game at Blackburn.

"You do get a lack of confidence from bad results and we've had enough of them this season, but hopefully it will have been lifted by the win.

"It was vital we got the three points against Bolton and you could see the relief and joy on everybody's face at the end.

"Every victory is important for this club. It has been a very difficult season for a number of reasons but what we've got to do now is try and win at Blackburn tonight and keep the confidence up.

"We have got to follow the Bolton game with another win. We know we have got to improve our away form and the first target is maximum points tonight."
