The charity game in which some of the best players to have worn the Liverbird in recent years challenged a team of celebrities to raise money for the Tsunami victims.

The Reds won comfortably infront a crowd of 39,000 and raised in excess of £1m in the process.

LFC Online columnist Alan Kennedy was delighted with the turnout and would like to thank everyone who made the effort on the day.

"It was great to see so many people turn out," he said. "One of the reasons I have stayed living in the North West is because I love the people.

"They are always happy to help out others and they care about events like this.

"The best part of the day was the lap of honour after the game. The crowd stayed right until the end and were fantastic.

"It was great to see so many former players there - from Kenny Dalglish and John Barnes to Robbie Fowler and Ian Rush. It's something that could never be done again.

"It was good to see the old boys passing it around. It was one-touch football, although it was more pass than move really."

For Dalglish, it was an emotional return to his former stomping ground.

"Anfield is a special place for everyone who has played here," he said. "It has played a huge part in my life and that of my family.

"I normally only come here to watch games now, so to get to play was extra special. The whole day was very enjoyable and it was all for a good cause."

Former Liverpool, and Everton, striker David Johnson also appeared for the Legends XI.

"To walk out and see that 39,000 have turned up, we couldn't have written the script better," he said. "It was great entertainment, but more importantly a considerable amount of money has been raised which will be put to good use."
