LFC to launch satellite channel in near future

First details of the planned channel were revealed exclusively by Kop Talk several years ago when Peter Robinson was still at the club.

At the time Peter told Kop Talk that the club didn't want to dive in at the deep end and that the club were closely monitoring MUTV, who were at the time losing money and subscribers.

MUTV have got their act together and offer some excellent programmes (if you're a United fan of course!). Not only do they show delayed Premiership action, they also show live coverage of their reserve team, something that we believe will prove very popular with Liverpool supporters, if included on the proposed LFC channel.

Now that the club have the backing of Granada Media, a dedicated LFC TV channel is sure to be a success - you only have to look at the official Liverpool FC website to see how Granada are capable of making something work.

Granada currently produce MUTV with Sky producing Chelsea TV - both of these channels are available on Sky's digital platform for around £6 per month, per channel.

Max Graesser, the new chief operating officer of the recently merged Granada Sport and Interactive division, believes the ability to show delayed coverage of Premiership games from this season will now enable clubs to attract many more subscribers.

"The addition of delayed match coverage has obviously made a huge difference," said Mr Graesser.

"Since its inception, MUTV has had a pretty solid subscriber base but, as expected, it has done particularly well this season."

To test the water, Liverpool are to show Liverpool's game against Manchester United (delayed) on their website. Talking about the planned transmission, Graesser said: "It's a chance for us to try to test the reaction. We need to understand what interest there is and work out the solution for broadband."

Granada, who own a 9.9% stake in Liverpool, are planning to increase their stake in Arsenal to a similar level and naturally launching a satellite channel on the Sky digital platform is a priority for next season.
