Liverpool's Jari Litmanen is insisting that he will continue to fight for his place at the club despite his continued snub by the management.

While certain players have continued to play while off the boil, Jari has remained patient and sat it out on the bench, if lucky enough to be named as a sub.

Newcastle United and a host of Europen clubs continue to monitor his situation at Anfield but despite a confirmed approach reported on the Insider, Jari remains upbeat and defiant.

"Everyone wants to play and it's true I haven't played too much lately. But I just want to do my work and make sure I'm ready if the coach calls on me," said the Finnish international.

"I'm experienced enough to know in football you live day by day. The most important day in football is the next one so I don't look back at what could have been, but look forward to what still might be.

"I haven't spoken to the coach and asked why I haven't been playing more and I don't intend to. I understand the situation.

"There are many great players here and many strikers so I have respect for all the decisions which are made. I feel I am part of the plans here. I am still part of the squad, whether I'm on the pitch, on the bench or in the stands.

"I still have a contract until the end of next season and I hope everything will go well. Everyone knows my feelings towards Liverpool. They are my favourites."
