The Senegalese striker was accused of spitting at the visiting Hammers fans as he warmed up on the touchline during the game at Anfield last month.

The incident sparked unrest at the time and the stewards were forced to intervene.

The club issued a statement following the game, insisting that Diouf was innocent, but following further investigation it has come to light that he did spit on the ground near the fans.

Liverpool Football Club have now reviewed their procedures to avoid such an incident happening again.
