Liverpool have acted quickly to deny a newspaper report that allegedly claims the Reds have met privately with Lee Bowyer regarding a possible transfer to Anfield.
The club today issued the following statement:
"Under normal circumstances the club does not comment on transfer speculation but a number of stories in today's newspaper regarding Lee Bowyer have made suggestions that members of our coaching staff have met the player. Contrary to those reports, neither Phil Thompson or Sammy Lee have ever met privately with the player. In addition, the club categorically denies that any meeting has ever taken place with the player or his representatives. The matter has now been placed in the hands of our solicitors."
