Riot police were called in to prevent trouble and four arrests were made.
"If chants about the tragedy started the trouble then it is an absolute disgrace," said a Liverpool spokesman.
"Our fans are generally very well behaved but I can guarantee there would have been supporters at Millwall who had to bury friends or family as a result of Hillsborough."
