Cheyrou was signed by Gerard Houllier for £3.7m from Lille at the start of the 2002/3 season but only made 17 appearances for the Reds. He spent last season on loan at Marseille after Rafael Benitez made it clear he was not in his plans.
Cheyrou is now in talks with Sochaux about a permanent deal but Liverpool will be lucky to get half the money they paid for the player three years ago.
