Liverpool manager has been a long time admirer of Dawson, and with Forest in financial difficulty the club may be forced to sell the promising youngster.

Barton has just one year left on his current contract at Man City and is yet to sign a new one.

Dawson is rated at £5m and Barton at £3m.
