The former Liverpool defender was rushed to Fazakerley hospital and will hopefully be discharged by the weekend.
"Everyone at Liverpool sends him their best wishes for a speedy recovery," said a spokesman for the club.
"He is a legend of the club and remains a very popular figure in the press box on match days. We look forward to seeing him again fit and well next season."
