It has been suggested that Liverpool could be the 'big English club' that is making attempts to sign Brazilian midfielder Ze Roberto from Bayer Leverkusen.

Reports today claim that a 'big English club' is battling to sign Ze Roberto despite interest from Bayern Munich and Barcelona. Those same reports claim that Liverpool 'could' be the club behind the gentle approaches - Chelsea are also mentioned as another possibility.

Bayer's general manager Reiner Calmund has so far refused to name the English club but has said that a decision will be made at the end of the month as to the player's availability.

Ze Roberto last week claimed he had agreed to join Bayern Munich next season.
