After only five minutes Hyypia was sent off by referee Mike Riley for a professional foul in the penalty area. Ruud van Nistelrooy converted to give United the lead.

Then in the second half United were awarded a second penalty for a foul by Igor Biscan. Van Nistelrooy made it 2-0.

Ryan Giggs has made it 3-0 with only 13 minutes remaining and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has added a fourth in the final minute of the game.
