Cup history has favoured the side in red whenever the fierce rivals have met in cup final action. United prevailed whilst wearing their preferred colours in both the 1977 and 1996 FA Cup Final. Liverpool, meanwhile, were victorious in the 1983 League Cup final and the 2001 Charity Shield.
