Liverpool out to attack

The Reds need only to avoid a 2-0 defeat to go through tonight but Benitez says he will not send his side out to defend their first leg lead from the first minute.

"We know how important this game is," Benitez said. "We know how well Bayer Leverkusen can play at home and no matter what the result was at Anfield, we know we will have to be at our best against Leverkusen because they are a great team at home.

"I am sure they will try to play with a high tempo and intensity and we will try to do the same. I don't know how to start a game with only defence in mind. Sometimes the best form of defence is attack. We will try to score a goal and keep a clean sheet. If you just go out to defend for 90 minutes then you can make things very difficult for yourself."
