Houllier was more then happy with the attitude of the players on the pitch and he feels the victory, coupled with a much needed clean sheet, will help to restore confidence at Anfield.

The Reds boss said:"I like the team togetherness. When you are in a period where things do not go your way you need it.

"We have had chances to equalise in the games we lost, and if you look at all four of our defeats in the league they could have been avoided.

"We came together and had a good meeting - and maybe now this can be the start of a new era, and a new campaign from now.

"What we needed was a good result, and so the positive thing was the result and the clean sheet".
