Liverpool to tour China in 2003

The success of a similar foray into Asia two seasons ago has alerted the Reds to the financial benefit of such tours. Games in Shanghai and Hong Kong have been agreed as part of the eight day tour.

Liverpool Chief Executive Officer Rick Parry said: "We are looking to build on what was a hugely enjoyable tour of South East Asia two years ago. Our trip to Thailand and Singapore proved a great success in every aspect and we are delighted to be heading to a different destination in Asia this time. We are aware of how fanatical LFC supporters are in the Far East. Final details still need to be confirmed but we have committed ourselves to the tour in mid-July."

One suspects that this tour will not be offered as an excuse for poor performances, as has been case with the Asian based World Cup of last summer.
