The Spanish side dominated this Champions League group game with goals from Pablo Aimar and Ruben Baraja.

"We didn't play strongly enough and we were playing like girls," said Jerzy Dudek. "It was very disappointing for everyone. I want to forget this as quickly as possible."

Liverpool played better at home but were still outclassed by Benitez's Valencia, with the only goal coming from Rufete.

Another pre-season friendly the week before the start of the season. Vicente Rodriguez and Xisco Munez claimed the goals in a game which Gerard Houllier showed off his new 'French gems' - Anthony Le Tallec and Florent Sinama Pongolle.
