Vaughan, who made 33 appearances for the reserves last season, was also targeted by Belgian side KV Mechelen and Norwegian outfit Viking but has signed a three year deal with former Liverpool captain Mark Wright's side.

"I have seen the player on a number of occasions, and I had to persuade his father that it would be a beneficial move for the lad and this football club," said Wright.

"He's got something about him, and I know we can teach him a lot. He has had a fabulous grounding with Steve Heighway, but here he will be treated just like any other young player in the squad and will be selected on merit, when I am convinced that he can do in a Chester shirt what I have seen him do in the Liverpool kit."

Vaughan is the son of Chester chairman Stephen Vaughan snr.
