Liverpool have had a £15million bid rejected for Auxerre's Djibril Cisse according to reports.

The highly talented striker has become a target of numerous European clubs since Liverpool started showing an interest in him.

Cisse's transfer fee has since escalated from around £15million to £30million in the space of several weeks.

Auxerre boss Guy Roux, a friend of Gerard Houllier's, had threatened to quit Auxerre if Cisse was put up for sale. Now however, he is starting to see the possible departure as a reality.

"A talent like his is priceless, in my view," said Roux. "If we are forced to let him go at the end of the season, it will be for the sort of transfer fee Luis Figo and Zinedine Zidane commanded."
