Mascherano's 12th minute shot gave Liverpool an early lead against Everton on Sunday. However, the shot was clearly deflected off Bitters defender Joseph Yobo and since the inital shot was going wide it was credited as an own goal. Mascherano is having none of it however.
"I think it's my goal because I tried to score with the shot," the midfielder told the club's official website after the match.
"It was a really important moment for me because I want to do my best.
"This season, some people have criticised my shooting, but I am trying hard to improve it and I am happy with today."
