The Liverpool midfielder in an Olympic gold medalist for the second successive Olympia after Argentina beat Nigeria 1-0 in this morning's final. Mascherano is the first Argentinian in history to achieve this feat.

Lucas has won a bronze medal after Brazil beat Belgium 3-0 in the third place play-off yesterday although he did not play in that game after being sent off in the semi-final.
