The Argentinian, who has already played for two clubs this year, would require special permission to play for the Reds this season, a condition which the Liverpool officials have contacted Fifa about. This has sparked further rumours that Rafa Benitez is keen to bring the player to Anfield.
A Fifa spokeman said the Reds had been in touch, adding, "We have received correspondence from Liverpool and a case has now been opened."
