The Reds booked a final place against the Gunners with a 6-1 aggregate defeat of Arsenal and the final is a set of matches McAuley is eagerly awaiting.

"Arsenal are a good team. I've been to watch them and they play good football. They have some excellent prospects in their team but I'd like to think we have some in ours. We are looking forward to the games and I'm sure we'll give a good account of ourselves," the under 18's coach told the club's official website.

"The FA Youth Cup is a great vehicle for young players to show their talent and they can develop as the competition goes on. We've done that. It's high profile and it's on national TV, so what better stage is there to show off your ability?

"We did a professional job against Birmingham. We took an early lead which was what we wanted. We wanted to kill them off but to be fair to them they kept battling away and got the goal just before half-time to go in 1-1.

"It was still all to play for in the second-half. We knew they would come at us and work hard to try and stop us playing. Thankfully we competed very well and defended well when we had to. We got the two goals after that to make the tie a little more comfortable. We've had to work hard over the two games to come through it."
