The Reds were 2-0 down after a mere six minutes but fought back in the second half to earn a point in a 3-3 draw to the delight of coach Hugh McAuley.

He said: "It turned out a cracking match but after the first six minutes I wondered what was going on as we found ourselves 2-0 down with some sloppy defending. We were very careless and over the course of the season you want players to improve.

"I have to say though that they are young players and they will make mistakes. While it's very frustrating watching it and taking the consequences of it that's life at reserve team football. The best thing about it is the young players have been given opportunities this season and now they have to push on and improve.

"For the second half I sorted one or two things out at half-time and I thought we worked a lot harder with a lot of good movement and retrieved the situation to go 3-2 up. Unfortunately Blackburn equalised but it was better second half.

"Anthony Le Tallec scored two good goals, set another up and was unfortunate not to get his hat-trick. That will do his confidence the world of good.

"Paul Barratt is a young lad who has been given an opportunity at reserve team level because of the circumstances with injuries. He has taken his opportunity quite well and has done well in the games that he has played. He has shown he can beat players, can cross good balls and he has a good attitude.

"Paul Harrison made some good saves at timely moments and he needed more protection in the first half which he didn't get."
