Agger made his debut in a Liverpool shirt when he played the second half for the reserves against Wolves last night. The Dane made an impressive start and McCauley was pleased with his performance.

"Daniel looked very comfortable and did very well. He was good in possession and he got forward well too. He reads the game very well and was nice and sharp," the reserve coach told the offical site.

"Jan Kromkamp also did well. He was very positive down the right hand side and full of running for us. There was good combination play between Jan and Paul Anderson down the right hand side. It was a good experience for Paul to play with some of the senior players. He works very hard and gives us good balance on the right.

"On the game overall I thought in the first half Wolves worked very hard to close us down and they did well so we had to be patient. We passed the ball a lot better in the second half and it was going to take a wonder goal for us to win it. It was some strike from Didi from the halfway line.

"The Wolves goalkeeper had an excellent game and made some superb saves but it needed something special from Didi Hamann to win us the game."
