Herrera has left Anfield to take up the position of Technical Director at Espanyol. Herrera worked as a reserve team coach and joint chief scout during his time with Liverpool and on his departure fellow chief scout Frank McFarland paid tribute to the Spaniard.

"Together with the boss, he has helped restructure a lot of things at this club," says McParland.

"The boss is always in control of everything but Paco has also been a big catalyst in changing a number of things, especially in this department. We've changed a lot of things here, it's gone really well and everyone seems happy.

"As an individual he is just top-class, on a personal and professional level. Honest, knowledgeable and a very nice fella.

"I've learnt a lot from him in terms of scouting; how to do the job, how to conduct yourself with agents and much more. Working with him for the last two years has been a fantastic experience.

"I'd like to thank him for all his help and wish him well for the future."
