Mellor could be on his way back

The Reds striker has been out of favour while on loan with the first division side this season and Gerard Houllier has admitted he would be happy to see him back at Anfield.

With Bobby Zamora cup-tied, Hammers boss Alan Pardew will give Mellor the chance to prove himself but admits defeat could see him moving back up north.

"He could well feature tomorrow and while we are in the competition I have said to him it has got to be better to stay here," said Pardew.

"Maybe if we go out of the cup that situation will change and it will be better for him to go back to Liverpool because we have got a glut of strikers here."
