Mellor was more then happy with his performance in the last cup tie to be played at Maine Road.

"It was very special because I have always supported City and I used to go to every home game at Maine Road when I was a young lad," he told the club's official website. "To play at that stadium for Liverpool in front of 7,000 of our fans was absolutely brilliant and I loved every minute of it."

"I think I contributed towards the result. I haven't played a game for a month so I thought my fitness might be an issue, but I was pleased with the way I got through it"

The young striker was pleased with his display and feels the result is a major boost for both him and the club.

"It was a great result for us and to see the faces on our fans when the penalty went in told you everything. We've had a tough time of late and the manager has come under some pressure, but we've stuck together and we firmly believe we're only going to get better between now and the end of the season."
