The reserves drew 1-1 with Wigan at Wrexham's Racecourse ground yesterday morning as Neil Mellor did what he does best and found the net for the Reds.

New reserve team coach Gary Ablett was pleased with his side's performance ahead of their first reserve fixture of the new season against Man City next Tuesday.

"It was a good work out for the lads and it was nice to see Neil Mellor score a fantastic goal after his recent injury problems," Ablett told the club's official website.

"Mellor looked sharp and was unlucky not to have scored a hat-trick and hopefully he can push on now and the injury problems are behind him.

"Wigan fielded a strong side with six or seven players who have played for the first team so it was a good test for the lads."
