Liverpool overcame Runcorn 3-0 on Monday night to book their place in the quarter-finals of the Liverpool Senior Cup. The Reds normally field their under 18's side in this competition but since there are no reserve games until January 9th Liverpool decided to field their second string instead.

The reserves were too good for Runcorn and had the game tied up by half time. Winger Paul Anderson gave the Reds the lead on 26 minutes when he picked up a pass from Godwin Antwi, beat two defenders and fired home into the bottom corner of the net.

It was 2-0 on the half hour mark when Ramon Castille took advantage of a defensive mix up. The Runcorn goalkeeper collided with his own defender and Castille was on hand to tap the ball in and double the Reds' lead.

Liverpool took their foot off the gas in the second half but were able to add a third goal two minutes from the end when Neil Mellor celebrated his first 90 minutes in over a year by hammering a shot into the bottom left corner of the net.
