Mexes set for Roma deal

The cultured Auxerre defender is thought to have held talks with both Liverpool and the Serie A runners-up in recent weeks, but with a new manager still to be appointed at Anfield Mexes now appears ready for Rome.

Mexes' agent Olivier Jouanneaux, speaking to BBC Sport, said: "Roma have offered Philippe an interesting sporting proposition.

"There is a four-year deal on the table and we're now just waiting for Roma to reach an agreement with Auxerre."
